Rihanna’s massive Diamonds World Tour has had its sparkling moments. But the Barbadian pop star’s fans let her know she’d lost her shine when she showed-up late in Boston.
Rihanna was reportedly booed when she kept the crowd waiting 90 minutes at her Monday night concert at TD Garden in Boston.
According to Boston.com, ticket-holders jeered the singer for starting her concert at 10:30 p.m, well past the advertised 9 p.m. start and apparently without opening act A$AP Rocky, who was unwell. Doors at the venue had opened at 7:30 p.m.
For the sell-out Boston crowd of close to 14,500 people, Rihanna’s late arrival was a case of adding insult to injury. This was a “make-up” show. She was meant to play Boston back in March, but had missed that original date due to illness.
It was a similar story, but different result when she played Brooklyn on Tuesday. Again, she hit the stage past 10pm, according to various reports. But on this occasion, she was warmly welcomed at the Barclays Center, where A$AP Rocky also performed.
Rihanna has missed a handful of U.S. shows on this giant trek. She nixed that earlier gig in Boston, just the second city on the tour. And a follow-up performance was also canned in Baltimore. On both occasions, the singer missed due to poor health – or more specifically, laryngitis. Live Nation were then forced to ditch two advertised April dates in Texas, and has rescheduled for November.
