86-year-old Georgia Holt -- better known as Cher's mother -- makes her Billboard chart debut this week. Holt arrives at No. 13 on Heatseekers Albums and No. 43 on Top Country Albums with her debut effort, "Honky Tonk Woman" (1,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan).
Initially recorded in 1980 with members of Elvis Presley's band, the sessions sat unreleased in Holt's garage until they were recently rediscovered. Cher recently explained to Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" that she "took (the tapes) to my musical director Paul (Mirkovich), and he went in and took it all apart and put all new music in it. Basically, we just kept Mom's voice and put everything else new on it."
During release week, Holt, along with Cher (who duets with her mother on the album) appeared on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" (April 30), "Good Morning America" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (May 1).
The album includes 10 songs, including covers of "Love Me Tender" and "Cryin' Time," in addition to original material written by Holt.
