Florida Georgia Line Sets Hot Country Songs Record
With a 12th week at No. 1, Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" breaks the record for the most chart-topping weeks for a title by a duo in the 69-year history of Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
"Cruise" also extends the list's longest reign by any act since Buck Owens ruled for 16 weeks with "Love's Gonna Live Here" in 1963-64.
Among duos, "Cruise" surpasses Carl Butler & Pearl's 11 weeks at No. 1 with "Don't Let Me Cross Over" in 1962-63. Here's a look at the songs by duos to total the most weeks at No. 1 since the earliest form of Hot Country Songs premiered in 1944:
12, "Cruise," Florida Georgia Line (2013)
11, "Don't Let Me Cross Over," Carl Butler & Pearl (1962)
8, "Wake Up Little Susie," the Everly Brothers (1957)
8, "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know," the Davis Sisters (1953)
7, "Bye Bye Love," the Everly Brothers (1957)
Owing heavily to a pop crossover remix featuring rapper Nelly, "Cruise" adds top Streaming Gainer (3 million streams, up 41%, according to Nielsen BDS) and Digital Gainer (189,000 downloads sold, up 25%, according to Nielsen SoundScan) honors on Hot Country Songs, as it reaches new peaks on the Pop Songs (15-12) and Adult Pop Songs (21-20) airplay rankings. The song's original album version spent three weeks at No. 1 on Country Airplay in December.
Since Hot Country Songs adopted an airplay/sales/streaming hybrid methodology last fall, "Cruise" claims the longest chart-topping run. Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" follows with a 10-week command from October to January.
On Country Digital Songs, "Cruise" leads for a 13th week (189,000, up 25%).
COUNTRY CROONIN': Performances on Fox's "American idol" and NBC's "The Voice" last week spur debuts on Hot Country Songs, led by "Idol" judge Keith Urban's "Little Bit of Everything," which grabs the Hot Shot Debut at No. 24. Runner-up Kree Harrison's "All Cried Out," meanwhile, opens at No. 34.
Concurrently, tracks by three "Voice" contestants bow: the Swon Brothers' "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" (No. 32), Danielle Bradbery's "Wasted" (No. 35) and Amber Carrington's "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" (No. 48).
COWBOY UP: George Strait widens his lead as the artist with the most No. 1s (25) on Top Country Albums, as "Love Is Everything" debuts with 125,000 sold. Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard are tied for the second-most No. 1s (15 apiece) since Top Country Albums launched in 1964.
"Give It All We Got Tonight," the lead single from Strait's new set, earns the Greatest Gainer nod (38 million audience impressions, up 22%) with a 6-2 leap on Country Airplay. On Hot Country Songs, Strait's 86th top 10 pushes 10-7.
'WHEEL'-HOUSE: Seven weeks after Darius Rucker's "Wagon Wheel" dominated Hot Country Songs, the sing-along anthem becomes his sixth leader, and his first in more than two years, on Country Airplay (2-1).
"Wheel" topped the Hot Country Songs chart dated April 13 and maintained impressive momentum with bullets every week and a No. 2 rank in five of the six following weeks; it ranks at No. 3 this week.
Rucker's new Country Airplay leader is his first since "This" topped the chart dated April 30, 2011. He first led with "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" in 2008, followed by "It Won't Be Like This for Long" and "Alright" (both in 2009) and "Come Back Song" (2010).
"Wheel" parent album "True Believers" will likely be the highest bow on Top Country Albums next week.
URBAN LEGEND: As it starts at No. 24 on Hot Country Songs, Keith Urban's "Little Bit of Everything" ropes the top debut (No. 30) on Country Airplay. With 5.5 million impressions at 79 of the 129 stations monitored for the chart, "Everything" opens at Urban's highest perch since "Put You in a Song" arrived at No. 29 on the Oct. 2, 2010, chart. Urban previously bowed at No. 30 or higher four times, having set his best mark when "Once in a Lifetime" roared in at No. 17 in September 2006. He started at No. 30 with "Sweet Thing" two years later and at No. 29 with "Kiss a Girl" in 2009.
Urban's Country Airplay history includes 28 top 10s, half of which have hit No. 1. "Everything" previews his seventh solo studio album, expected later this year.
Also noteworthy on Country Airplay, Jake Owen claims his sixth top 10 with "Anywhere With You," which jumps 11-9. He's topped the chart three times, most recently with "The One That Got Away" in December.
