Selena Gomez and PSY Rebound on Social 50 Chart
The teaser video for Gomez's "Come & Get It" helps launch the pop star into the top five.
Selena
Gomez rebounds back into the top five of this week's Social 50 chart
(moving 34-5) as she prepared last week for the release of her music
video for "Come & Get It."
The Social 50 ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo,
Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The
chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers
along with artist pageviews, song plays and reactions.
Gomez released a 37-second teaser clip to her official VEVO channel
on April 30. The video accumulated over 950,000 views during the
charting week, adding to the over 8 million plays received by Gomez.
That social impact ushered in a 76% increase in overall weekly fan
acquisition for the star, bringing in over 550,000 new followers across
Facebook and Twitter.
Meanwhile, PSY also dances back to the top 10 (15-6), spurred by a
performance on NBC's "Today" (May 3). PSY showed host Matt Lauer and the
rest of the "Today" gang his newest dance that accompanies his single
"Gentleman." The social buzz that followed is reflected in the over
203,000 conversations about PSY on Facebook, which resulted in the
acquisition of 147,000 new followers on the platform (483,000 overall, a
9% increase over the previous week).
Also rising in the rankings is Jennifer Lopez (28-9), who was
announced along with Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown as a
featured performer on the upcoming 2013 Billboard Music Awards. The
announcement was met with a 434% rise in weekly conversation on Facebook
which translated into the addition of 220,000 new fans on the platform
(a bump of 46%). She could rise on the tally next week after the release
of her new single, "Live It Up," featuring Pitbull. The song premiered
Wednesday (May 8) to her official YouTube channel.
Elsewhere, the passing of two musicians brings two acts onto the tally.
Slayer re-enters at No. 35 after their guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed
away on May 2, a re-entry spurred by 449,000 views to Slayer's
Wikipedia page during the week (a 979% increase over the previous week).
Further down, Kris Kross makes a debut at No. 48 with over 570,000
views to their Wikipedia page (up 5,300% from the previous week) as
Chris Kelly, one half of the '90s rap duo, passed away on May 1.
Back to the top 10, Justin Bieber remains at No. 1 while One
Direction jumps 6-2 (over Taylor Swift, who stays at No. 3) amidst its
European tour. Both Rihanna (2-4) and Bruno Mars fall (7-8), while Katy
Perry climbs a notch (8-7). Finally, Justin Timberlake slides 4-10 to
cap the top 10.
