Peter Hook To Play New Order Classics on North America Tour

Peter Hook

Peter Hook doesn't want to play with New Order. But that doesn't mean he won't play his old band's music.
Following a well-received string of debut U.K. concerts in January, the legendary bass player and his group The Light will embark on a North American tour this September, playing the classic early New Order albums “Movement” (from 1981) and “Power, Corruption And Lies” (from 1983) in full -- and in sequential order.
Audiences should also get a taste of the singles from 1981-1983, which include “Everything’s Gone Green”, “Temptation” and “Blue Monday.”
The Windish Agency is presenting the 12-run tour (nine in the U.S., three in Canada), which will start Sept. 10 at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club. The set-list will be switched when the tour reaches Chicago’s September 13 - 15 Riot Fest, where Hook and his team promise to play a tour-exclusive Joy Division set.
It’ll mark the third tour of North America by Hook and his band, following tours of “Unknown Pleasures” in December 2010 and “Closer” in Sept 2011.
Hook’s relationship with his former New Order bandmates is frosty -- perhaps frozen at absolute zero. Hook left the group in 2007, and then polarised his fanbase when he toured Joy Division’s seminal album “Unknown Pleasures” – a move which did nothing to thaw relations with his former collaborators.
"I think I've short-circuited any disagreements between the three of them because their hate is obviously all pointed at me, as opposed to the old days when we all used to point it at each other," Hook told Billboard ahead of those U.K. dates earlier this year.
In October 2012, he took a dig at the band in his second book, "Unknown Pleasures - Inside Joy Division", following up his first, the critically acclaimed 2009 book, "How Not To Run A Club" about his Hacienda years. Since leaving New Order, he’s also created music with the project Freebass.
Hook and his band performed “Everything’s Gone Green” in January at a homecoming show at Manchester Cathedral, a download of which is available here.
