Florida Georgia Line Doubles Up Atop Hot Country Songs, Country Airplay Charts

FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE
Florida Georgia Line is the first act to simultaneously dominate Hot Country Songs and the Nielsen BDS-fueled Country Airplay tally with separate titles since the former chart adopted a multi-tiered methodology (airplay, sales and streaming) last fall, while also becoming the first rookie duo in more than 21 years to top the latter chart with its first two singles.

The twosome, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, crowns Hot Country Songs for a fifth consecutive (tenth cumulative) week with "Cruise," and steps 2-1 on Country Airplay with "Get Your Shine On," marking the first time any new duo has gone two-for-two on the radio tally from the start since Brooks & Dunn managed the feat with "Brand New Man" and "My Next Broken Heart" in 1991.

Driven in part by a remix featuring rapper Nelly, "Cruise" also improves on the Pop Songs (21-18) and Adult Pop Songs (32-26) airplay lists. With 145,000 downloads sold during the Nielsen SoundScan tracking week, "Cruise" also tops Country Digital songs for an 11th week.

Also noteworthy on Hot Country Songs, Darius Rucker's "Wagon Wheel" earns Streaming Gainer applause (1.5 million streams, up 52,000, according to BDS), bulleting at No. 2; Tim McGraw's "Highway Don't Care," with Taylor Swift, captures the Airplay Gainer nod with a 15% spike and holds at No. 6; and Billy Currington's "Hey Girl" (47-19) is the Digital Gainer with sales of 53,000 downloads.

'ROCK' ROLLS: With eight No. 1 achievements during a 10-year period starting in 1991, Garth Brooks boasts the most No. 1s of any country act on the Billboard 200. But, Kenny Chesney comes within striking distance of the Oklahoman's crown with "Life on a Rock," which becomes Chesney's seventh No. 1 with 153,000 sold, according to SoundScan. It begins as Chesney's 12th No. 1 on Top Country Albums.

Among all artists on Top Country Albums during the SoundScan era (which began with the album chart dated May 25, 1991), Chesney enters a two-way tie for fourth place with Brooks for the most leaders (12 apiece), a list on which George Strait remains king with 15 No. 1s, followed by Tim McGraw (14), Alan Jackson (13) and Toby Keith (10).

Concurrently on Top Country Albums, Randy Rogers Band claims its fourth straight top 10 debut, and second-largest sales week, with "Trouble," which starts at No. 3 (26,000). The veteran Texas red dirt group sold 29,000 on opening week with "Burning the Day," which bowed at No. 2 two years ago. The act also debuted in the upper tier with "Just a Matter of Time" (No. 8, 2006) and "Randy Rogers Band" (No. 3, 2008).

BLAKE SAIL: Blake Shelton notches his 17th Country Airplay top 10, as "Boys 'Round Here," featuring Pistol Annies & Friends, rises 12-9. The track follows his 13th No. 1, "Sure Be Cool If You Did," which reigned for two weeks in March. Both songs appear on Shelton's third Top Country Albums No. 1, "Based on a True Story…," which has dominated the list for three weeks (No. 2 this week) and sold 456,000 copies since its March release.

Reaching the top bracket in just six weeks, "Boys" ties for Shelton's fastest- climbing Country Airplay top 10 with "Honey Bee," which likewise buzzed to the top tier in six weeks two years ago on its way to a four-week run at No. 1.

"Boys" marks Pistol Annies' first Country Airplay top 10. Simultaneously, group member and Shelton's wife Miranda Lambert rises 3-2 with "Mama's Broken Heart." All four debuts on Country Airplay belong to Kenny Chesney. The songs are available on his aforementioned new album "Life on a Rock."
